Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to rave over RB Leipzig star Marcel Sabitzer, after he netted two goals in just 21 minutes of action against Tottenham in the Champions League last 16.
The 42-cap Austria international netted his 14th and 15th goals of the season with his brace against the north Londoners, who eventually lost the second leg by three goals to nil – RB Leipzig registered an aggregate score of 4-0 after their 1-0 first leg victory.
Liverpool fans on Twitter have already been left drooling over Sabitzer’s teammate Dayot Upamecano – who earned the highest rating of any player on the pitch on Tuesday evening – although the two-goal hero was the second-highest rated figure after SofaScore handed him a 7.7.
The 25-year-old – who has eight assists as well as 15 goals this term – scored with both of his shots on target against Jose Mourinho’s men, while also showcasing his industrial nature with three interceptions as well.
Sabitzer also won both of his attempted aerial duels, but lost ten of his grounds duels – RB Leipzig’s No.7 only won one of his attempted 11 battles on the turf as opposed to in the air.
Let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about him…
To kick off the reaction, one fan told the Reds to sign Sabitzer instead of his teammate Timo Werner, who has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield.
That is a bold statement in itself, as the German striker has scored 27 goals in all competitions this season and is a fine attacker who is also just 24 years of age – so, for a fan to demand the Austrian be signed instead of him speaks volumes as to how well he played.
Two more fans branded the 25-year-old as an ideal player for Jurgen Klopp to get his hands on – his intensity and ability on the ball definitely seems like it would suit the former Borussia Dortmund boss’ style.
Elsewhere, two other fans said that Sabitzer would be a good replacement for Adam Lallana this summer.
The England international is out of contract at Anfield this summer, and The Evening Standard believe Liverpool have no plans to offer him a new deal, so a replacement wouldn’t go amiss.
Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?
Also, another fan said the RB Leipzig star is better than Naby Keita, who has struggled for form since arriving on Merseyside – the Guinean has been involved in just eight goals in his 51 appearances for Liverpool since his £52.75m move from RB Leipzig.
