West Ham United have made an offer to sign Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior, according to reports out of Italy.
The Lowdown: Exciting talent…
Still only 22, the Poland international received his first World Cup call-up this year and is currently at the tournament in Qatar, playing in every minute so far of his team’s run to the knockout rounds.
Kiwior has been rewarded for his brilliant Serie A form yet again this season, playing his way into becoming a mainstay under Spezia boss Luca Gotti. Only their star striker M’Bala Nzola has played more league minutes than the 22-year-old, who has stood out as a defensive colossus for his club.
Kiwior has averaged more interceptions and blocks per 90 than any Spezia player, which potentially led to him getting the call for Poland.
The Latest: West Ham make offer for Kiwior…
As per Italian sources, it appears that West Ham have taken their interest in the Polish starlet one step further.
Milan Live claim that the east Londoners have ‘started contacts’ with Spezia over a move for Kiwior and ‘intend to reach an agreement’.
As a result, West Ham’s ‘first offer’ of €15m (£13m) has been presented, but the Ligurian club want €20m (£17m) to consider selling the defender.

The Verdict: Keep pushing?
If West Ham manager David Moyes is seeking defensive reinforcements, you could argue that Kiwior is one of the target with the greatest potential.
His form for Spezia at such a young age is a clear indication of his brilliance, leading to none other than Poland superstar Robert Lewandowski calling him ‘extraordinary’.
Therefore, the Irons should keep pushing in their pursuit of the Spezia defender, not least given the injury concerns and potential departures in that area of Moyes’ squad.
