The reigning champions came back from a goal down to beat Brentford 3-1 courtesy of Phil Foden's stunning hat-trick. Towards the end of the match, Manchester City skipper Walker was seen having a fierce confrontation with Maupay, although it is not clear why the duo argued or what was said between the two.

caught up with Pep Guardiola after the match and asked him about the conversation, to which he replied: "Nothing happened." When the same question was asked to Brentford boss Thomas Frank, he said: "No… I haven’t asked him [Maupay]."

Last week, Maupay got involved in a bust-up with James Maddison as he mocked the England international's trademark dart-throwing celebration in front of Tottenham fans after opening the scoring against Ange Postecoglou's side. The two players were spotted exchanging some heated words on the pitch, with Maddison later insisting that Maupay "hasn't scored enough goals of his own in the last few years to have his own celebration."
